Malaysia has attracted a record amount of investment from the BRICS countries

The volume of investments from the BRICS countries into the Malaysian economy in the first quarter of 2025 amounted to 8.54 billion ringgit (about 163 billion rubles). Such data were provided by the country’s Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, the agency reports Bernama, TV BRICS Partner.

The key investor countries were China, India, the UAE and South Africa. The majority of investments, 96 percent, are directed to the manufacturing sector, including green technologies, the digital economy and infrastructure. Investments in the service sector amounted to 270 million ringgit (about 5 billion rubles).

«Malaysia’s participation in BRICS has the added value of recognizing our country as a progressive partner with strong principles.<…> This opens the door to new markets and strengthens interaction with the largest economic powers in the Global South and strengthens our role in championing a fairer trading system», – noted in the ministry.

It is expected that thanks to the implementation of the projects, more than 6 thousand new jobs will appear.

Malaysia received BRICS partner status in early 2025, which contributed to strengthening its investment attractiveness. Previously, the country already had stable trade relations with the key economies of the association, with China and India.
