Zimbabwe FM discusses Harare’s BRICS bid with Brazilian Ambassador

Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Amon Murwira met with Brazil’s Ambassador to the Republic Wilmar Rogerio Coutinho , during which the parties discussed Harare’s bid to join BRICS and prospects for developing bilateral cooperation, The Herald newspaper , a partner of the TV BRICS network, reported.

Murwira noted the fruitful nature of the talks, emphasizing the importance of relations between Zimbabwe and Brazil. In particular, the topic of cooperation in the field of agriculture and the exchange of agricultural technologies was touched upon.

“We had a constructive exchange of views and we received useful recommendations from Brazil as the current BRICS chair regarding the steps we need to take. We have already started implementing them ,” the minister said.

In turn, the Ambassador stressed Brazil’s readiness to support Zimbabwe in this process and to expand bilateral cooperation, including in multilateral initiatives, including the Global Alliance to Fight Hunger and Poverty.

Earlier, Murwira, at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow, said that Zimbabwe is currently working to meet the requirements for joining BRICS. According to him, the country is at the application stage and is awaiting a response from the association.
