Two large clay vessels believed to date back to prehistory have been discovered in western Iran. This is reported Tehran Times, TV BRICS Network Partner.
According to Farzada Sharifi, Director of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts of Ilam Province, local residents were the first to notice parts of the vessels in the ground. Cultural heritage experts, archaeologists, police officers and representatives of the regional prosecutor arrived at the scene to record the find and ensure its safety.
«A preliminary assessment shows that these earthenware vessels were used to store dry products – grains or legumes», – Sharifi reported.
The pieces are made of red clay and may indicate the existence of early settlements in present-day Ilam Province.
Both vessels were taken to a local storage facility. One of them is completely preserved, the second has cracks. Now specialists are engaged in the conservation and restoration of artifacts.
Current research is aimed at clarifying the age of the finds, manufacturing technology and possible connection with other archaeological sites.
