Prime Ministers of India and Malaysia discuss trade, investment and regional cooperation

Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim and his Indian colleague Narendra Modi met in Rio de Janeiro, where the XVII BRICS summit was held. They considered issues of cooperation in the fields of trade, investment and technology, the news agency reports Bernama, partner of the TV BRICS network.

In a publication in social networks, Narendra Modi noted that the parties discussed the current state of bilateral relations, including changes that occurred after Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to India last year.

“Our partnership is actively developing in such promising industries as information technology, renewable energy and infrastructure. We also talked about how to improve investment and trade cooperation between our countries,” the Indian prime minister wrote.

Anwar Ibrahim in a statement following the meeting stressed the potential for expanding strategic cooperation between the two states.

The Malaysian Prime Minister welcomed the interest of Indian companies in investing in promising industries – the digital economy, artificial intelligence, renewable energy and aerospace industries. He also noted the desire of both sides to develop humanitarian ties through culture, tourism and education, especially highlighting the idea of creating a campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Malaysia.

The Prime Minister of Malaysia also confirmed that the country supports the further development of the partnership between ASEAN and India. According to the agency, the ASEAN-India summit is scheduled in October.
