Electric transport market rises in Ethiopia

As the Minister of Transport and Logistics of Ethiopia Bareo Hassen told ENA, an international manufacturer and suppliers of electric transport is increasingly striving to enter and invest in the Ethiopian market.

According to him, the Ethiopian authorities seek to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and to actively use renewable energy sources. To this end, the country is implementing a national strategy for the development of electric transport and supports initiatives that contribute to the transition to electric vehicles.

In addition, the authorities support the conversion of cars with gasoline engines into electric ones and introduce technologies that help reduce fuel consumption and reduce emissions.

Thanks to these measures, Ethiopia already has more than 115 thousand electric vehicles. More than 15 companies are engaged in their assembly at local enterprises.

Hassen noted that such a policy and the country’s desire to develop environmentally friendly transport attracted the attention of world producers who see a promising market for investment in Ethiopia.
