Ethiopian Prime Minister: Country to Surpass Economic Growth Goal in 2025

Ethiopia will significantly surpass the projected economic growth of 8.4 percent for the current fiscal year. This was stated by the Prime Minister of the country Abiy Ahmed, transmits Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), partner of TV BRICS.

According to him, thanks to macroeconomic transformations and the Internal Reforms program, Ethiopia demonstrates sustainable growth even against the backdrop of global challenges. He explained this by the development of key sectors: agriculture, industry, mining, services and finance.

Abiy Ahmed said that agricultural growth was 6.1 percent, and industry expects an increase in production by 12.8 percent. Significantly increased gold exports – from 4 tons last year to 37 tons, which allowed to increase revenues from 300 million to 3.5 billion US dollars (from about 23.6 billion rubles to 275.7 billion rubles).

Tourism and services also demonstrate positive dynamics – 1.3 million tourists visited the country, more than 150 international conferences were held. The financial sector also shows a significant increase: the volume of loans increased by 75 percent, and the number of mobile banking users reached 55 million people.

In addition, the Ethiopian prime minister said that exports exceeded $ 8.1 billion ($638.14 billion), which is more than double the figures of last year.
