Iran has become one of the ten leading countries in the world in the production of heart valves from human tissue. This advance in medical technology opens up new avenues for treating patients in need of transplantation. This is reported PressTV, TV BRICS Partner.
It is noted that the technology has made it possible to reduce the waiting time for operations and reduce the cost of importing medical products. The production is handled by the Research Center of Tehran University of Medical Sciences and the Transplant Materials Bank of Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
According to experts, aortic and pulmonary valves that meet international standards are produced in the sterile conditions of the center. While imported valves cost from 6 to 12 thousand US dollars (approximately from 493 thousand to 986 thousand rubles), Iranian ones are available for 200 dollars (approximately 16 thousand rubles). More than 1 thousand products have already been manufactured, and over 100 patients undergo transplants every year.

Heart valve disease remains one of the world’s leading health problems. Previously, patients waited months or even years for surgery. Now Iranian production is helping to significantly reduce these time frames.
The project was the result of years of research and investment in the biomedical industry. The use of local scientific resources has made it possible to create high quality products that meet international safety and efficiency requirements.
This strengthened the national health care system and strengthened Iran’s position in the global medical device market. The increase in domestic production also made it possible to reduce foreign exchange costs and make aid more accessible.
