Iran has broken the record for solar energy generation

Iran has reached record levels of electricity generation from solar power plants. For the first time in the country’s history, this figure reached 800 megawatts (MW), the news agency reports Mehr, TV BRICS partner, citing an official representative of the energy sector.

This breakthrough was made possible by the commissioning of new solar power plants with a total capacity of 150 MW in 24 provinces of the country, including Tehran, Yazd, Isfahan, Sistan and Baluchestan. The projects were implemented through private and public investment.

According to the official, the capacity of all renewable energy facilities in Iran today is about 2,100 MW.

In accordance with the strategic energy development plan, the country’s authorities intend to continue increasing the share of renewable energy sources (RES). It is expected that by the end of the year, renewable energy sources will account for about 7 percent of Iran’s total energy balance.

Let us recall that the BRICS countries c declarations, adopted at the end of the Rio Summit, declared their commitment to a just and inclusive energy transition, which is key to combating the effects of climate change. The document emphasizes that this process includes the development of renewable energy sources and requires strengthening international cooperation, financing and ensuring energy security.
