JOHANNESBURG – Brics Journalist Association urges UN to defend media freedom.
This comes in the wake of sanctions imposed by the European Union on the BRICS Journalist Association.
The move is seen as an attempt to silence narratives from the Global South.
The Association is calling on the UN and media watchdogs to intervene and defend the right to free expression and independent journalism in underrepresented regions.
Dr Nonkululeko Mantula, the association’s co-chairperson says the UN needs to see the value that journalists bring into the society.
