Media representatives of the Global South will meet in Brazil before the BRICS summit

Representatives of the media countries of the global South will take part in the BRICS Press Meeting in the Brazilian Nitereo (Rio de Janeiro) – a meeting aimed at deepening the interaction between the media and consolidating journalists’ efforts in building a multipolar world.

Organizers of the event – newspaper Toda Palavra, part of the partner network TV BRICS, and TV Comunitária de Brasília. The meeting will be held on July 4, two days before the official opening of the BRICS summit. The TV BRICS media network is an international information partner.

The BRICS Press Meeting will discuss independent journalism, the role of the media in strengthening the multipolar world order, the creation of communication networks in the countries of the global South, as well as the importance of the cultural dimension of BRICS in media production.

As the founder of Toda Palavra, Luis Augusto Ertal, noted, the holding of a meeting on the eve of the BRICS summit opens a strategic window of opportunities to strengthen professional ties between the media communities of the countries of the association.

“The BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro is a great opportunity for independent journalists from the states of the global South that have arrived in Brazil, to establish cooperation and create synergies for the formation of free and democratic information networks that reflect the interests of the world majority,” he said.

Beto Almeida, Director of the TV channel teleSUR In Brazil, also a partner of TV BRICS, stressed the importance of forming its own model of international communication based on the principles of multilateral cooperation.

“It is important that the BRICS countries … unite efforts to create a global model of media interaction capable of broadcasting the values underlying the multipolar world,” he said.

The event will be held in the historic building of Solar do Jambeiro from 10:00 to 18:00 Brazilian time (from 16:00 to 00:00 on July 5). The meeting will be held with the support of the news portal Brasil 247, the BRICS Center for Research at the Federal University of Fluminense, the Alexander Pushkin International Association of Schools and other organizations.
