– How do you assess the current level of Russian-Mexican relations?
– It is noteworthy that in 2025 it is celebrated 135th anniversary of the establishment of relations between Russia and Mexico. An interesting year to strengthen cooperation.
Responding to a question about bilateral ties, I would call them strong and lengthy. There were times when relations between Mexico and Russia were strained: under the USSR there was even a period of lack of diplomatic relations. However, after the resumption, this partnership has just gained balance. So it can be noted that in the political sphere, these ties were and remain healthy, warm, respectfully aimed at finding mutual benefit. And we expect that this will continue in the future.
– Mexico is one of the most important trading partners of Russia in Latin America, in 2024, trade between the countries increased. Are there any further prospects for increasing it?
– – One of the main tasks of the Embassy of Mexico is the implementation of the trade and financial interests of our countries. Therefore, the diplomatic mission is looking for ways to expand trade cooperation every year, which would be beneficial for both parties. But there are also difficulties: the complex logistics of goods and payment systems. We are trying to deal with these challenges.
Thus, this year we are assigned and implemented two tasks in the trade sphere both in relation to the activities of Russian entrepreneurs in Mexico and the activities of the embassy here in Moscow. On an ongoing basis, we cooperate with various institutions: the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Moscow Export Center and others, we try to find ways to interact with various local participants in the market of Mexico, hold online meetings. All this is aimed at strengthening our trade ties.
I must admit that our trade relations are more beneficial to Russia, as it sells Mexico three to four times more goods than Mexico to Russia. In any case, this state of affairs is favorable for our country, because we buy what we need. Among other things, our goal is to increase the scale of economic cooperation, to unlock its potential in other areas.
