Peace and Solidarity South to South Meeting

-By Dr Nonkululeko Patricia Mantula

Today, as Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and top European leaders at the White House, the Global South met to show solidarity against imperialism.

At a time when imperialism intensifies its offensives, deploying new forms of domination and extraterritorial aggression, Venezuela, we called on the social movements and political parties of the world to move from denunciation to action, from resistance to the offensive, moving firmly in a collective Action Plan to face and defeat the common enemy.

This virtual meeting was a space to coordinate efforts, articulate answers, and reaffirm that the voice of the peoples was silenced by sanctions, blockades, or military threats. Internationalist unity was the primary strength derived from the virtual meeting, which over 500 people attended.

In the meeting it was confirmed by Mr. Rander Pñena, Executive Secretary for
The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP) that there are still 60 Venezuela children who were systematically kidnapped and are still in the USA.

A letter by the Latin American Mothers’ Against Fascism group was read and circulated amongst the attendees. This letter was sent to the first lady of the USA, Melania Trump, to rekindle her maternal gentleness and empathy so she can stand in solidarity with the Latin American mothers to fight for the safe return of all their children. Her proximity and possible persuasion of Trump could be the soft diplomatic solution to ending the kidnapping of Latin American children.

Over 500 international delegates represented various Global South countries, political parties, and civil organisations against Western imperialism.

This is a positive stance by Venezuela to unite the Global South in solidarity against unreasonable sanctions, over-inflated trade tariffs, false accusations and a ridiculous bounty of $50 million placed on the head of state, President Nicolas Maduro.

Multipolarism is the plausible order of the new world, but the push by the West is proving that they fear losing the economic dominance that they have enjoyed for years.

There is power in unity and even more when the unity translates to decisive action.

Statement from Venezuela

From the Movimiento de Madres Heroínas, they raise their voices for life and dignity.

Our Venezuelan mothers have addressed Mrs. Melania Trump, First Lady of the United States, to denounce the human tragedy faced by hundreds of families: the separation from their children as a result of migration policies.

“Can you be at peace for a minute without knowing the whereabouts of your child? Could you sleep calmly without knowing if they ate or how they feel? We cannot move forward without having them close.”

The plea is clear: the rights of children come before any political decision.
They demand an end to the policy of separation, the return of children to their mothers, and that the cry for justice from these families be heard.

With deep hope and determination, the Madres Heroínas say: “Free our children.”
