The 13-th meeting of BRICS ministers of science, technology and innovation was held in Brasilia. According to the deputy head of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia Konstantin Mogilevsky, the Russian side proposed to create a database of scientific data in the BRICS covering key areas of research. This is reported in the social networks of the department.
“Given that BRICS is more than half of humanity, the association in this regard has a natural competitive advantage. It, of course, should be used: we raise the question of creating international databases within the framework of BRICS – on medicine, genetics, materials science and other areas of knowledge.
Konstantin Mogilevsky
He added that the discussion of the initiative will continue in the relevant working group “dozens”. It is assumed that the combined databases will give impetus to joint development and increase the effectiveness of scientific cooperation.
Another important issue raised by the Russian side is the need to create a common list of scientific journals, publications in which will be recognized by all BRICS countries. Such an initiative, according to the deputy minister, will allow to take into account the results of research in a single scientific space.
In addition, at the meeting in Brasilia, a Protocol was signed on the accession of new members of the BRICS to the Memorandum of Cooperation in the Field of Science, Technology and Innovation. The document turned 10 years old, and during this time more than 155 joint projects have been implemented.
