Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov welcomed by President of the Republic Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was in Samarkand as part of an official visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan, where he was welcomed by President of the Republic Shavkat Mirziyoyev and held substantive talks with Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov3.

The Participants focused on joint preparations for celebrating the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and reviewed in detail the status of the implementation of the large-scale agreements at the top and high levels aimed at strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance. They also noted with satisfaction the steady positive dynamics of political partnership,
coordination of steps in the international arena, and cooperation in trade and economic, scientific and technical, and cultural and humanitarian spheres.

In particular, Uzbekistan’s interaction with the Eurasian Economic Union as an observer country and the substantive dialogue between Tashkent and the Eurasian Economic Commission were highly praised.
The Foreign Ministers underscored the importance of building up constructive interaction in the Central Asia Plus Russia format and welcomed Uzbekistan’s recent acquisition of the status of a BRICS partner country. Aspects of security in the Central Asian region in connection with the situation in Afghanistan and crises in the Middle East, and Syria were reviewed.
