On this day, 38 years ago, Baba Samora Moises Machel, one of Afrika’s brightest stars was violently plucked from the sky. Baba Machel is, without doubt, one of the most iconic figures of the Afrikan revolution and the global fight against imperialism. He is also one of the few of whom it can be said: he lived, worked, and died for his people. He literally dedicated his life to the cause of Afrikan liberation and the fight against imperialism, and in the process, he and others in FRELIMO made incalculable sacrifices.
Like Baba Amilcar Cabral, Baba Eduardo Mondlane, Baba Patrice Lumumba, and Baba Thomas Sankara, Baba Machel set an incredibly high standard for what it means to be a leader in Afrika.
May we emulate his love, dedication, and loyalty to Afrika and her people. May we make sure that our children know all there is to know about this great Son of The Soil.
